We took a day off work on Wednesday, pulled the kids out of school a little early, and headed to Utah for Thanksgiving. This year had Thanksgiving dinner in Glendale with the Brinkerhoffs, and went on over to Tropic to see the Mechams after that.

The weather is a little less than welcoming this year. Let me just say, 'cold' doesn't even begin to cover it. When we woke up on Thanksgiving morning in Glendale, it was
nine degrees.
And, the kids wanted me to go out and play with them in it. Needless to say, I wasn't
even going to attempt that one. They were troopers, though, and went out and played quite a bit. Grandma and Grandpa Brink have a big hill in their backyard that is always a great sledding run this time of year as well as at Christmas. They were out grooming the trail soon after Thanksgiving dinner, when the temperature was all the way up to 25 degrees, and enjoying evey minute of it. At one point or another, each of them came in completely soaked--thank goodness for a warm fire in Grandpa's stove. Standing in front of it warmed them up in a hurry.

Dinner was great, as usual. Ryan, Angie's brother, was here with his family and mother-in-law, Lucille as well as us, Lexi (Aunt Ann's daughter), and Grandma and Grandpa. Before long, there was a mass cooking effort going on, football on the TV, and much Black Friday research happening. It was a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the usual trimmings, which is great for me. I love the turkey, ham, mashed potatoes & gravy, stuffing, pies, etc... Needless to say, I'm going to have to hit the treadmill when I get home, because I gained a few pounds.

Rochelle, Ryan's wife, is a big Black Friday participant; in fact, I think their whole family other than the young kids, are really into it. I was even considering going with them, but my committment waned as the day wore on, the temperature dropped, and reality set in as to how early I'd have to get up. I decided the $40-$50 I might save, after all the gas I'd burn (would have to drive 2 hours one way to St. George to do it) and time I'd spend, just wasn't worth it.
We also had a great time in Tropic, where we went to visit the Mecham side of the family afterward. It was a little colder over there, if that's possible, so again, we stayed inside a lot. But, we had a great time visiting and catching up. There's no time better spent than that spent with family.
