This said, however, when we got to January 4th, one day before Rhett's birthday, there were still a few big things to do. All I can say is, thank goodness I had that day off, it being a Friday, and that Rhett didn't have school. The biggest things he had left to do were to go on a thee mile hike and to do an overnight campout.
Luckily for us, we live right on the edge of Henderson, and against the desert, so we (Rhett, Jesse, Soleil, and I) were able to go out on a hike in the hills near our home and have a good time while filling this requirement. Unluckily for us, the campout was the other thing, and it was January. Now while it is true that we live in southern Nevada, it is also true that 30 degree weather to camp in is just as cold here as it is anywhere else. Not a fan! We got the tent pitched in the backyard (no, it was not a long distance to travel to the campsite) and got our sleeping bags in the tent. We hunkered down at about 10 o'clock, and it was cold! However, as everyone knows, the coldest part of the day was yet to come--just before daylight. At about 4:30 in the morning, we woke up and the temperature was about 35 degrees. For my money, we had camped overnight, so we went in the house and finished out the night there while trying to thaw ourselves out.
We had a good time and it was very rewarding to see Rhett go so far in Cub Scouting.
