At this time of year, and really, at all times of the year, let's all find someone, other than ourselves, to serve and help. There are so many people out there whose burdens are heavy. Some are overworked, some are lonely, some have physical maladies, and there are many others. Finding ways, sometimes simple ways, just to bring a little light into someone's day by helping make a dreaded task a little easier or helping them know that they are loved can make a world of difference.
A friend of ours recently shared an experience she had as she was leaving church. She told Ang that she was having a bad day, and that just as she was leaving to go home, feeling kind of down, Rhett, Jesse, and Soleil offered to help her carry her things to her car. It was a small act of service, and I am sure the kids didn't realize how much it meant to her, but between Rhett's helping to carry things and Jesse and Soleil in tow talking up a storm (during which conversation they noted that her car was much cleaner than ours loud enough for passers by to hear [one of whom passed that tid bit on to us]), they helped brighten her day. We were so proud of them, and are grateful for their goodness.
Truly, when we serve others, forgetting ourselves, we are serving God, and how better can we spend our time. Do your best to make someone else's day better. You'll be surprised how much better your day is as well.
