This morning we celebrated Jesse's 7th birthday. Ang has a tradition of doing a little treasure hunt for the kids on the morning or their birthdays to find their presents. They also wake up to balloons. Knowing this, Jesse was up at about 5:30am. My alarm was set for 7:00--silly Dad. Ang wasn't quite ready yet, so I talked him into laying down with me and listening to the Great Brain (I have it on audiobook on my phone and kids love it). That lasted a
little while, but thank goodness Ang was quick with the balloons so it was okay.
Rhett and Soleil were stirring soon too, and then the party got started. The kids got the various clues, as well as a few jokes, from the game board, and raced through the house and the yard searching for the presents. Some of the clues were:
1. Look in the place where cookies and cakes
And muffins and spuds and bacon bakes
(the gift was in the oven)
2. It's not inside, but rather it's out___
It's time to use your head.
Not on the tramp or slide or grass.
This present's in the ______.
(the gift was in the shed)
3. It's silver and sleek and oh so quick.
Look in the trunk. This is no trick.
(the gift was in my car's trunk)
4. "Visions of sugar plums danced in their heads"
Amid snores and snuffles in Jesse's ________.
(the gift was under Jesse's bed)

Jesse got, of course, the obligatory Lego set (I have got to remember to invest in that company), a Land Shark (which is kind of like a triangle shaped skateboard that you kneel on, and it has handle bars to steer and a brake [which Jesse will probably never use]), a stuffed Angry Birds bird, a glow in the dark writing board, a pirate hat, the Lion King movie, and a Star Wars dart gun.
He's such a sweet boy and we love him so much. It is a joy to have him in our family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESS!!
