Eastering - Fishing at Lake Mead

A few weekends ago, the day before Easter, we pulled out the fishing poles and made a trip to Lake Mead to fish.  The kids were very excited to go, so we promised them we'd go out if they did all of their chores.  As it turns out, that is exactly the best way to get them to do their chores!  They were done in a flash.  Then, while Ang fixed a great lunch, the kids and I went to Wal-Mart to get bait, tackle, and a fishing license.

When we got back home, we loaded up with the intent to go to the place where we usually do the Fathers' and Sons' outing.  Halfway out I had a startling realization:  that place is on the AZ side of Lake Mead, and I hadn't checked to see if my license would be valid over there.  Not daring to chance it (because I had my suspicions that we would not be catching any fish), we decided to stay on the NV side of the Lake.

We went through Boulder City, and headed down to the shoreline and began to fish.  Well, I spent a lot of time running from disaster to disaster, first Jesse cast into a bush, then Rhett couldn't get his bait to stay on, then Soleil pulled off the best of them all, tangling her reel so badly that I couldn't even come close to untangling it there.  We ended up sharing poles with the boys.  My line never even made it to the lake.

After fishing, we headed up into Boulder City where we noted that the entire police force was trying to get a year's worth of tickets written in a single day.  There was also a car festival in the park there, so there were a million people, and there were speed traps everywhere.  I actually got pulled over, and should probably cut the police some slack, because they didn't give me a ticket.  There is actually a 15mph speed zone in an area with no houses and not a school zone where they got me (I was going 28mph).  When the guy pulled me over I was like, "Really?!"  He was cool, though, and let me go.  In fact, he was really cool in that none of the kids had their shoulder belts on, and he didn't write me up for that, which was very legit.

We stopped up at a little park in Boulder City and had a picnic, and, after a few pictures, went home.  It was a fun time.
