For his birthday, Jesse got a cool ride called a Land Shark. It is kind of like a skateboard, but it is wide so that the rider can put both knees on some pads. It also has handle bars with a break (apparently that's too complicated to operate, as you'll read). Ang often takes the kids to the park, and Rhett had borrowed it from Jesse to ride down a steep hill a few times. As he'd get to the bottom of the hill, he'd ride off into the grass, slow down quickly, and roll off.
The first time it worked great. He did a good roll as he came off, just like a stunt man. Right back up, time for another run.
Next time down the hill, he was cruising again, off into the grass, and rolled off. However, this time, rather than doing his best impersonation of a Hollywood stuntman, he did his best impersonation of Walt Disney's Goofy, with arms and legs flailing--no tuck and roll. This second, less graceful end to his ride resulted in a very painful, purple, swollen right hand. It was very sore, so the next day we took him to the doctor and found that he'd broken his finger.
For the next four weeks or so, Ang would have to wrap his finger each night, and he had to be very careful with it. But, now, about five weeks after the accident, he's about as good as new. We're glad he healed up okay.
