This past Friday we traveled to Glendale to pay tribute to a great member of our family: Grandma Leah Brinkerhoff. She passed away on the night of the 20th/morning of the 21st, and will be missed greatly. I remember her as a fun-loving, down-to-earth lady who readily laughed and joked. The first time I met Leah was when Angie brought me home to Glendale for the first time to meet her family, about 19 years ago. I was very nervous, but around the Brinkerhoffs, that didn't last long. They treated me like one of the family, and laughed, talked, and had a good time. They put me at ease, and made me feel like I belonged, and Leah was a big reason for that. I loved her from that day forward, and will surely miss her.
The funeral was very nice, and also, nice and brief. It was very apparent that her wishes had been for a short service. Several times during each of her sons' remarks, they commented, while looking at the clock, that they needed to be sure to be done by the time an hour was up because she had given them strict direction that the service go no longer than an hour. The crowd laughed, seeing her taking charge, even from the other side.
There were many fun stories told about her as well as thoughts about how her goodness had affected others and helped them to progress and live better, more successful lives.
Angie's brother, Wes, dedicated the grave site to end the service. We then had a nice luncheon at the church and enjoyed the company of family at Kurt and Vivian's prior to driving back home.
